We conducted a scoping review to explore COVID-19 preparedness and response in rural and remote areas in all settings, to identify lessons to inform future health preparedness and response planning.
A search of scientific and grey literature for rural COVID-19 preparedness and responses (as described in the WHO COVID-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan 2021), identified 5 668 articles published between 2019 and early 2022. After screening against pre-specified eligibility criteria, 293 articles were included. The database includes the records from these 293 studies which provided both quantitative data as well as qualitative data which were analysed to describe the COVID-19 preparedness and response; and to identify and explore the main themes in the preparedness and response in rural and remote areas.
